It Waits

Whether you want to call it trauma, baggage, conditioning, etc., it won’t go away on its own. People spend a lifetime suppressing and avoiding these things, only to discover that it waits for you to deal with it. It waits. It’s so patient. It doesn’t have to be this scary thing, this panther prowling in the dark. Fear gives it that power, but confronting the thing, the shadow self, the parts of us we don’t want to admit exist, takes away their power. No longer a scary monster, it is transformed instantly by the light of your awareness into a small child, worthy of compassion and understanding. Because that’s the part of you that got scared and developed all these defense mechanisms around cutting off from your emotions, body sensations, and other people.
