The Authentic Self

Do you remember when you were a kid and just knew how special you were, for a fact. You could feel your own worthiness; you weren’t yet taught to question it. Everyone else was cool too, but you could feel your own sacred you-ness as you bumped up against all these other divine jewels surrounding you. Well, the good news is, if you feel your inner space, it’s still that same consciousness inside. It hasn’t aged. I used to think my consciousness was tied to the state of being a child, but it’s actually not that either. It’s infinite. It existed before you were even born and will exist long after you die. It’s the same consciousness shared by all living things. Some might even go so far as to say it’s God.
It’s from this consciousness that all things arise. Skyscrapers and bouquets of flowers, babies and bombs, fountain pens and pants that are too tight. Beliefs held in the mind and trauma held in the body color the way we perceive outside stimuli. That is why it’s so powerful to get in touch with the authentic self. The inner consciousness, beyond mind and body, from which true desires arise for the purpose of manifesting our unique soul’s purpose, and also just for fun! No big deal! Start by bringing your awareness to the inner body and let yourself be silent. It’s harder than it sounds. Like a shy child or a quiet voice, it will start to arise. You may feel inspired to do something. You may feel like a kid again. You may feel like you’re praying. Or you may feel nothing. It’s ok. The practice is worth it.
